The power of books Part 1: Ex 4 Generating Ideas

"Using one or more of the following book related sayings as a starting point to generate visual ideas and responses" I picked 'Bookworms' and 'You can’t judge a book by its cover' because I could only think of good ideas for those.

Using thumbnail sketches, spider diagrams and text I think I showcased some different concepts for the theme especially the bookworms, I played around with 3D elements and intertwining the pages with worms and using shapes like a paper apple with a worm. As for the judge a book phrase I focused more on one idea of the front cover being boring and then the reader would open the pages and be surprised with a full 3d scene like the circus. As for subjects fitting in frame I think it’s a more exciting design when it comes out of the page and then nicely fold back after being closed.

I did have a try at some others, but I found them hard to make up as realistic designs for traditional books.

I though the idea of a circular book would be so interesting, and it could be used as a decorative piece standing on its own and then converted back into a book.

How is the subject lit? I think the bookworms there could be a light shining through one of the holes and the shadow follows through onto the page behind. Or same goes for the worm if that has light shone on it that could produce a shadow. I think i could even put a colour of the light like a warm colour such as pink as the worm’s body or colours so it would have similarities to the book ' the hungry caterpillar'.

As for the not judging a book phrase there could be holes, cuts, and shapes in the pages that light could shine through, using the circus theme the light could represent a spotlight or the darkness of the tent.

What particular attributes does the subject have? They all have interactive themes, 3D parts and colours. Some ideas like bookworms are literal whereas oldest trick in the book is a bit of a stretch with the invisible ink. As for the Open and closed book I feel like the 360-book design would make a good decorative piece.
